**Summary:** An MCP server that gives AI assistants MSP campaign playbooks, buyer profiles and vocabulary

---

In April 2025 I wrote about [AI and prompt engineering for MSPs](../../ai-and-prompt-engineering-for-msps). Marketing content was the first scenario on the list, mostly because an MSP rarely has a person whose job is marketing. The first step of that technique was to give the AI as much context as possible, with examples. That step is where the difficulty is. An owner who has never run a cold outreach program has no playbook to paste into the chat, no description of the buyer, and no list of the words that work with that buyer.

Without that context the assistant still writes the email. It knows what a cold email looks like, so the result has a subject line, 3 paragraphs, and a call to action. But it lacks the customer content, it lacks the marketing experience. The assistant fills the gaps somehow, and the copy becomes too generic.

That is why, based on the readers request, MSP Notes now has a [public MCP server](../../mcp) that supplies the missing context, so you don't have to spend time on it.

Here is what is on it, how to use it, and how to connect it to Claude, Codex, Grok, and Antigravity.

## What is MCP?

MCP stands for [Model Context Protocol](https://modelcontextprotocol.io), an open standard that lets an AI assistant call tools on an external server. Once a server is connected, the assistant sees a list of tools with descriptions and decides when to call them. You do not copy anything into the chat. You ask for a webinar campaign for accounting firms, and the assistant fetches the webinar playbook, the profile of an accounting firm as a buyer, and the vocabulary, then writes with that material in front of it.

There is a second benefit. A prompt saved in a document stays as it was on the day you wrote it. When a playbook on the server changes, every connected assistant gets the new version on the next request.

## What is on the server

The server is open and read-only, and it needs no account or API key. As of today, it holds:

Content
Count
What is inside

Campaign playbooks
17
Prerequisites, step-by-step execution, offer and copy guidance, common mistakes, success metrics

Templates
15
Email sequences, call scripts, landing pages and one-pagers with placeholders to fill in

Audience profiles
17
Pain points, buying triggers, messaging angles and common objections

Vocabulary
84
Definition, usage guidance, phrasing to use and phrasing to avoid

The playbooks cover email nurture, cold outreach, social, webinars, landing pages, referrals, newsletters, and events. The audience profiles cover verticals such as law firms, dental practices, accounting firms, manufacturers, and local government, plus the IT director at a mid-size company for co-managed IT. The articles published on MSP Notes are available as well.

The assistant reaches the content through 7 tools: a catalog, a keyword search, and a tool each for playbooks, templates, audience profiles, vocabulary, and articles. There are also 2 prepared prompts. `create-campaign` takes a campaign type and, optionally, a service focus, an audience, and a description of your business, and puts the matching playbook, template, profile, and vocabulary into a single brief. `review-campaign` takes a draft and checks it against the same material.

## How to use it

Start by asking what is available: "Show me the campaign catalog from MSP Notes." Then ask for what you need in plain language:

- "Build a cold outreach sequence for law firms in Boston. We are a 12-person MSP, and our strongest service is backup and recovery."

- "Review this landing page draft against the MSP Notes playbook and vocabulary."

- "What are the common objections from dental practices, and how should I answer them?"

The prompts also instruct the assistant to ask for missing specifics before writing: the services you offer, the region, your differentiators, the target customer, and the goal of the campaign. Answer those questions. The playbook gives the structure, while the details that make a prospect reply are yours – a result you delivered for a customer, the vertical you know, the city you work in.

## Connecting the server

The URL is the same for every client: `https://mspnotes.com/mcp`.

### Claude

In Claude on the web or in Claude Desktop, go to Customize > Connectors, click "+", choose "Add custom connector", paste the URL, and click "Add". Custom connectors are available on all plans, and the Free plan is limited to 1. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner adds the connector first under Organization settings > Connectors, and members then connect to it.

In Claude Code, run:

```
claude mcp add --transport http mspnotes https://mspnotes.com/mcp
```

Add `--scope user` to make the server available in all projects, and run `/mcp` to check the connection. The prompts appear as commands: type `/` and they are listed as `/mspnotes:create-campaign` and `/mspnotes:review-campaign`. Arguments are separated by spaces, so use a single word for each:

```
/mcp__mspnotes__create-campaign webinar security-mdr accounting
```

### Codex

Run:

```
codex mcp add mspnotes --url https://mspnotes.com/mcp
```

Or add the server to `~/.codex/config.toml`:

```
[mcp_servers.mspnotes]
url = "https://mspnotes.com/mcp"
```

The Codex CLI, the IDE extension, and the ChatGPT desktop app share this configuration. To check the connection, run `codex mcp list`, or type `/mcp` inside Codex.

### Grok

Go to [grok.com/connectors](https://grok.com/connectors), click "New Connector", select "Custom", and enter the URL. On Grok Business and Enterprise, a team admin has to provision the connector first.

## What to keep in mind

The prompts are large. Each includes the full vocabulary, and that matters on a plan with tight usage limits. In that case, ask for a specific playbook and a specific audience profile instead of running the prompt.

Search matches the exact phrase. "HIPAA" returns results and "dental" returns results, while "HIPAA dental" returns nothing. Search with a single keyword.

The numbers in the playbooks are public benchmarks found by AI. Be mindful to verify and check any numbers you get in your materials.

Also, be mindful that you need human time to execute. In [part 3 of the practical marketing series](../../practical-marketing-for-managed-service-providers-part-3-marketing-tactics), I described how to select tactics based on the resources available for sales and marketing, and that selection comes first. A 12-month nurture program needs somebody to run it for 12 months.

Fire up your favorite AI client, and play with it!
